The #dontGo Movement

Finally, McCain and the House GOP get tough on energy

McCain has challenged Democratic Congressional leaders by name to call Congress back into session and work to solve our current energy crisis. He also challenges Obama to stop campaigning and head back to Washington. Video here.

Link via the #dontgo Movement, a new website which demands Congress end its vacation and do the people's business:
#dontgo Movement is a collaborative effort being developed by a group of free-market, e-activists who wish to see Congress stay in Washington until a solution for our energy crisis is found. But #dontgo is more than a single issue.

Our goal is to achieve a tidal shift in American politics from the ground up, utilizing the great potential of the grassroots movement. On a multitude of issues, from energy independence to fiscal responsibility, we plan to return the country back onto the right path.
On threatening the Liberal elite:
Why is this movement of vital importance to America right now?

For too long, the liberal elite, entrenched in both parties, and their friends in the media have managed to keep the truth from the People, to ignore the issues and concerns, and even the facts, that are relevant to the People, all in their effort to pursue an agenda that was born in the early 20th century (”progressivism”) and that has failed wherever it was tried.

In the final analysis, the People, loyal to the great truths and principles that made America great and looking forward to true progress, not “progressivism as regression towards big government”, an advance of freedom and prosperity in a free society with a free market, have finally decided, “we will not go silently into the night!”
House Republican Leader John Boehner:
“My message to Democratic lawmakers is this: if you’re really for increased American energy production, then prove it by putting it in writing. Sign the discharge petitions House Republicans are circulating that will force votes on energy legislation Speaker Pelosi refuses to bring to the floor. And sign onto the American Energy Act, our ‘all of the above’ plan to increase conservation, innovation, and American energy production, instead of doing the Speaker’s bidding by voting against bringing it to a vote. If you aren’t willing to put it in writing, you’re fooling no one. You’re siding with the Speaker of the Drill-Nothing Congress and radical special interests that favor higher gas prices, at the expense of energy-strapped American families.”

“This cynical strategy is disgustingly dishonest. Without any real solutions to help Americans who are struggling with record-high gas prices, it appears the Democratic leadership has hit on a new plan: deceive. Deceive the press, deceive its members, and deceive the American people. Democratic members have a ‘pass’ from their leaders to talk about drilling at home, while the liberal Democratic leadership – which is beholden to special interests that want higher gas prices – plays ‘rope-a-dope’ back in Washington, ensuring there is no vote to help the American people before November. It’s cynical, dishonest, and wrong – and it won’t work.”

The Democrats, along with their media allies, have chosen deception as a strategy to run out the clock until after the election. We can't let them get away with it. Unfortunately, the bettors at Intrade think there is a 50/50 chance that they will.
