White Sox a/o 8/01/09

If someone told me nine days ago that the Sox would lose 3 of 4 to the Twins and all 3 to Detroit and only be 1.5 games out of first in the division I would have thought they were crazy. We have been very lucky to date. Consider runs scored/runs allowed versus our Al Central rivals:

Detroit +30
Minneapolis +14
White Sox +5.

This is after last nights win over the Yankees 10-5.

That says to me that we had better shore up our pitching because their bats don't seem to be the problem. With a healthy Quentin and if Jenks would stop losing games in the ninth and we have a contender.

After we get past the Dodgers we will have Cleveland, Seattle, Oakland, and K.C. all of whom are at or next to the bottom of their divisions. Next week the Tigers and Twins will be beating up on each other then Detroit goes to Boston for 4 games. A good time to pull decisively ahead of one or both teams.
